Linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid (LABSA) is prepared from commercially available sulfonated linear alkylbenzene (LAB). Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is the world's most used synthetic surfactant and is widely used in household detergents and various industrial applications. LABSA's market is driven by the LAS market (eg, household detergents). LAS is biodegradable and is a replacement for non-linear (branched) alkylbenzene sulfonates (BAS) and has now replaced BAS in household detergents worldwide.
About 83-87% of LAS is used in household detergents, including laundry detergents, laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and other household cleaners. LAS can also be used as an emulsifier in industrial, utility, and commercial cleaners (eg, : for agricultural herbicides and emulsion polymerization) and wetting agents; there are also a few LAS for personal care products.
